Philadelphia Liberty Announce Summer Youth Development Partenership

West Chester United Soccer Club and the Philadelphia Liberty Women’s Soccer Team Announce a Summer Youth Development Partnership

WEST CHESTER, PA – The West Chester United Soccer Club (WCUSC), in conjunction with the Philadelphia Liberty Women’s Soccer Team, proudly announces its membership in the Youth Premier Soccer League (YPSL). The WCUSC/Liberty partnership will field boys and girls teams in the 95/96, 93/94, and 91/92 age groups. The teams will carry the name WCUSC Eagles.

“We look forward to participating in the Youth Premier Soccer League this summer," said Damon Nolan, WCUSC Executive Director and Philadelphia Liberty General Manager. "Through our membership in the league, we will be able to round out our club’s competitive schedule as we will have players from a number of our travel teams rostered to our YPSL teams. This approach will allow us to increase the growth and development of our players during the critical summer months."

The WCUSC Eagles YPSL teams will be overseen by Tino Mueller, WCUSC Technical Director. Mueller is a former Germany youth professional coach, having worked with the Soccer Academy of 1.FC Saarbruecken. “I look forward to imparting my experience and knowledge with the players in our YPSL summer program,” said Mueller. “While with FC Saarbruecken, I was able to work with a number of talented players including three players who are currently on the German U-16 National team. Partnering with the Philadelphia Liberty to offer WCUSC members the opportunity to develop through the YPSL summer league is just one of the ways WCUSC will creating a well structured, professional environment for the players to raise their game to the highest level possible.”

As a new and exciting regional youth soccer league, the Youth Premier Soccer League (YPSL) will act as the youth component of the highly successful Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) and National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) tandem. The YPSL will begin play in the summer, 2008.

The goal of the YPSL is to become a trend-setter, rather than a follower of current trends. The leagues basic objective is simple - maximize quality playing time, competition, and officiating while minimizing travel issues and scheduling. Success in these areas will highlight the professionalism of the franchises involved.

Founding members of the YPSL include AC Diablos (NJ), Adirondack Lynx (NY), Millburn Magic (NJ), Morristown Colonials (NJ), PA Classics, and West Chester United (PA). The league schedule will consist of 12 games over 4 weekends. During each league weekend, one game will be scheduled on Saturday afternoon and two games on Sunday. Dates for ODP and Regional events would be blacked out so the league would pose no conflict for its players. WCUSC Eagles YPSL teams will have expanded rosters to allow for player summer conflicts.

The WCUSC Eagles YPSL teams will begin training in early June and continue through the end of July. The training will be scheduled around travel team practices to provide training that will supplement regular team training.
