Kendall Walkes: Head Coach

In addition to taking over the helm of the Philadelphia Liberty in 2008, Kendall Walkes is the head coach of the West Chester University (WCU) men’s soccer team. Walkes has been in charge of the WCU men’s team since 1990 and earned the SEPSCA 2006 Senior College Men Coach of the Year award.

On the youth side, Walkes is an EPYSA ODP staff coach and received the 2003 NSCAA Boys’ Youth Coach of the Year award for his work with EPYSA and the West Chester United Soccer Club FC United’86 Boys team (2003 EPYSA State Cup Finalist and 2003 US Youth Soccer National Directors Cup Champions). Walkes’ played professionally in the NASL, played for Davis and Elkins (WV) College, and was a member of the Trinidad national team for the 1978 and 1982 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He holds a USSF ‘A’ License and a NSCAA Advance National Diploma.
Steve Fraser: Assistant/Goalkeeper Coach

Steve Fraser returns to the Liberty staff after working with the team in 2007. Fraser is a goalkeeper coach for the EPYSA’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) and PAGS Elite Player Development Program. He is also the assistant coach and goalkeeper coach at Conestoga High School for the girls varsity soccer team (2007 PA State AAA Champions). Fraser is head coach for two local girls youth teams, the TEYSA Charge’93 and LMSC Cobras’97.

Steve Fraser has coached at several professional youth academies in England and across Europe, including working with the Icelandic women’s national team. Fraser holds an NSCAA National Diploma, a UEFA ’B’ License, and English FA Goalkeeping ’A’ Licenses, in addition to licenses from the French and Dutch football federations.

During the day, Steve Fraser runs soccer sessions for 3-5 year olds and is involved at ’grass-root’ youth development with several clubs. During the upcoming summer, Fraser will be overseeing the West Chester United Soccer Club’s Youth Premier Soccer Program’s goalkeeper training.

Shane Coyne: Assistant Coach


Shane Coyne joins Kendall Walkes and Steve Fraser as an assistant coach with the Philadephia Liberty.  Coyne, who holds a UEFA 'B' License, Advanced National Diploma and is licenced by the Irish Football Association, was a former academy coach with Sligo Rovers FC of the League of Ireland Premier Division. After spending the last four years coaching various youth teams in the New Jersey/Pennsylvania area, Coyne is also working with Coach Walkes as a volunteer assistant coach with the West Chester University Men's Team and is a staff coach with West Chester United Soccer Club.

In addition to assisting with Philadelphia Liberty training and game-day coaching, Shane Coyne will oversee daily player management including nutrition and fitness guidelines.
