New Jersey Soccer Group Joins YPSL

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ (03/28/08) Great Youth opportunities for Magic and Colonials youth teams  The New Jersey Soccer Group is proud to announce the acceptance of the Morris County Colonials and the Millburn Magic to compete in the inaugural season of the Youth Premier Soccer League (YPSL). The YPSL is the official youth league of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) and the men’s National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). Both leagues represent the highest level of amateur soccer in the United States, featuring players from some of the nation’s top collegiate soccer programs. Membership to the YPSL limited to the youth programs of WPSL and NPSL teams, meaning the Colonials and Magic youth programs are the sole league representatives for Northern New Jersey.

The aim of the YPSL is to combine the best elements of current summer options, and promote a structure which best  reflects the interests of youth soccer players. This is achieved by maximizing quality playing time and competition whilst minimizing the travel and scheduling issues synonymous with other competitive summer opportunities. The YPSL schedule runs in conjunction with those of the WPSL and NPSL resulting in no conflicts occurring between year round travel soccer and summer play.year round travel soccer and summer play.

The Colonials and Magic have over 300 players playing in their youth teams this year, representing every age group  from U9 through U16 boys and girls. The teams are composed of talented players from their local areas, demonstrating their commitments from the clubs to developing strong links within their soccer community. Both  organizations are also running U9 and U10 Pre-Y teams that will prepare and enable players to advance into the YPSL. U10 teams will also have the opportunity to play 11v11 games in preparation for the upcoming fall season.YPSL teams will compete in twelve games, at premier soccer facilities, scheduled over four weekends, followed by a finals weekend. This structure provides players with regional competition against teams such as the New England Mutiny, Philadelphia Liberty and Boston Aztecs, reversing the current trend of repetitive tournaments at the same locations against the same teams. An added bonus of the competition is that standout players have the prospect being recognized as part of US Club Soccer id 2 player identification program, a national system of talent identification and development.

The YPSL is one of the many ways the Colonials and Magic are looking to create links and develop relationships with local youth soccer programs. Through the senior teams competing in the WPSL and NPSL, YPSL players will have the opportunity to progress from youth to senior soccer within one club structure. “We are in a unique position to offer continuity as players progress through the age groups” remarked Denise Gosling, Head of Youth Programs for the Millburn Magic, “and we hope players recognize this and remain committed to developing through our program” ,. The Millburn Magic and Morris County Colonials are part of The New Jersey Soccer Group, a management company  representing a family of soccer based organizations offering a full range of soccer services in northern New Jersey.

Adirondack Lynx to Join YPSL

FT. ANN, NY (01/23/08) - The Adirondack Lynx is proud to officially announce that they will be one of the pioneers of the Youth Premier Soccer League in 2008. The Lynx will be entering 3 girl’s teams at the U12, U14, and U16 age groups this coming summer.

“We are excited about the opportunity to be a part of a league that is run by the teams rather than teams run by a league,” said Owner/General Manager PJ Motsiff. “With Matt Driver and his soccer organization leading the charges on the creation of this new league it is sure to showcase some of the best young talent in the northeast. Affiliating the YPSL with the WPSL and NPSL will serve as a stepping-stone to the highest levels of soccer in the United States. Many of the players in the YPSL will move on to fill the rosters of their WPSL and NPSL affiliates.”

The Adirondack Lynx Elite Female Soccer Academy will use the YPSL as part of a 10-week summer soccer school. Along with participating in the YPSL’s festival weekends, the soccer school will train at least 2 times per week from mid May to the end of July. Participating players will be treated and trained just like the WPSL players. Built into the typical soccer program will be sessions with a speed and quickness coach as well as a mental conditioning trainer.

“Soccer in capital district of New York has a very deep and rich history. Over the years, this area has produced some of the best high school and club players in the . This trend continues as much of the area’s talent currently fills many collegiate rosters around the country today,” added Motsiff. “We look forward to tapping into this talent pool and putting together some very competitive sides.”

“We are not as concerned with the competition as we are with player development. The Summer Soccer School is an opportunity for players to feel game-like pressure, yet allow them the opportunity to be creative on the pitch without the concern of winning or losing.”

Unique to the Summer School is that there will not be tryouts for the three teams. Rather, players will be recruited into the program based on their play and commitment to their home club and desire to compete. The Summer Soccer School has been designed to fill a void in a regular clubs annual schedule. The Summer Soccer School will allow more committed players an opportunity to hone their skills throughout the summer season.

In addition to the Summer Soccer School, the Lynx will create a U23 reserve team that becomes part of the WPSL player pool and play locally. The Adirondack Lynx WPSL team has had some noteworthy success in only its first 2 seasons of existence. In 2006, the team won their division and made it to the eastern conference play-offs. In 2007 the team was edged out of the playoffs even after finishing the season by winning 6 of its last 6 matches.
